After the melting process, the melted raw plastic is shaped into small beads. It is usually called as resin. The resin is automatically moved into extruder barrel before it finally gets extruded. Almost near on the barrel rear, there are rotating screws. The screws have the function to give the force to the resin into the barrel that is being heated using certain temperature based on the polymer type. It can be around 392°F to 527°F. The temperature is controlled gradually from the rare side of the barrel to the front side of the barrel. It is to avoid the overheating that can affect the polymer. To create the hollow sections of the tubes, the pins are placed on the die. The number of pins is determined by how many holes are going to be created.
The plastic extrusions can be a type of high volume manufacturing. And the whole process is done using special extrusion machine. The straw you use to drink your favorite milkshake can be one of the most familiar examples.
